Archie Rose Distilling Co., Rosebery
Chilled water system investigation, warranty advocacy, and ROI analysis for new chilled water plant at Archie Rose Distillery, Rosebery

Project story
QEG was engaged by Archie Rose Distilling Co. to investigate poor chilled water performance at their Rosebery distillery. Working with hydraulic balancing specialist KC Balancing Pty Ltd, QEG used ultrasonic flow measurement to determine that the secondary chilled water pump was delivering only 2.6 l/s against a design requirement of 6.1 l/s, causing supply temperatures to climb to 16°C against a 6°C setpoint — despite the existing 132 kW Multi Air Australia air-cooled chiller having sufficient capacity for the load. QEG recommended pump replacement with a higher-head duty/standby arrangement. In parallel, QEG provided a formal professional opinion on the repeated failure of the bar area Dunnair PAC unit (seven major failures including two compressor failures in under two years), successfully negotiating a full warranty replacement from Dunnair. QEG also produced a detailed ROI analysis comparing a new 300 kW air-cooled versus water-cooled chilled water plant, quantifying $32,493 in annual savings and a 3-year return on investment for the water-cooled option.
