Capalaba Central Shopping Centre — Chiller Replacement
Replacement of the existing 1658 kW York centrifugal chiller with a new 1658 kW Dunham-Bush water-cooled magnetic-bearing centrifugal chiller (Danfoss Turbocor compressors), with updated BMS control philosophy and 24/7 remote monitoring

Project story
QEG was engaged via Moreton Bay Airconditioning to replace the end-of-life 1658 kW York centrifugal chiller serving Capalaba Central Shopping Centre with a like-for-like-capacity high-efficiency replacement. Following an ROI analysis comparing the existing plant against a new high-efficiency offer, QEG delivered a new 1658 kW Dunham-Bush water-cooled centrifugal chiller fitted with multiple Danfoss Turbocor oil-free magnetic-bearing compressors — capable of turning down to 10% of design load with COP up to ~13 at low load — and updated the BMS control philosophy to suit the new variable-speed plant. The chiller was witness-tested at the Dunham-Bush factory before shipment, delivered to site at Moreton Bay Road Capalaba, and commissioned with 24/7 QEG remote monitoring, a 12-month preventative maintenance term and a 60-month warranty on equipment and installation work.
