Treasury Building, King Edward Terrace
Base building mechanical refurbishment of the Commonwealth Treasury Building in Canberra, comprising replacement of four cooling towers with Baltimore Aircoil PCT0909P3L units, supply and installation of seventeen high-efficiency motors across six chilled water pumps and eleven AHUs, Aquatherm PPR condenser water pipework, precast concrete cooling tower piers, and Schneider EcoStruxure BMS controls integration. Delivered as a joint venture between QEG and CBR Mechanical as mechanical subcontractors to head contractor Cockram Construction.

Completing on budget for Treasury is quite novel but well received
Project story
QEG was engaged as joint venture partner with CBR Mechanical as mechanical engineering subcontractors to Cockram Construction for the Treasury Building base building refurbishment in Canberra. QEG's scope encompassed full 3D Revit mechanical coordination drawings, design engineering, project management, and commissioning for the replacement of four cooling towers with Baltimore Aircoil PCT0909P3L units, supply and installation of seventeen Pope E-Series high-efficiency motors across six chilled water pumps and eleven air handling units, and Aquatherm PPR condenser water pipework. Precast concrete pedestals were prefabricated off-site and installed to support the new cooling tower array. BMS integration using Schneider EcoStruxure provided full CT controls monitoring and VSD integration, commissioned in August 2020. NEBB-certified commissioning was performed by Flowtech. All site personnel were required to hold baseline security clearances for unescorted access within the Commonwealth facility.
