Woden Police Station, Canberra -- HVAC Electrification and Chiller Upgrade

QEG was engaged by Monarch Building Solutions to deliver the mechanical services for the electrification and chiller upgrade at Woden Police Station in Canberra. The project involved decommissioning and removing the existing gas boiler, chiller, pumps, tanks, MSSB, VAV units, and interconnecting pipework, and replacing them with a new 144 kW Trane Sintesis Balance CMAF air-cooled heat pump chiller providing simultaneous heating and cooling. QEG designed and prefabricated two pump skids at their Sydney workshop, incorporating Masterflow buffer tanks, Wilo Atmos GIGA pumps, Optivent air and dirt separators, expansion vessels, dosing pots, copper pipework, and seismic spring mounts on galvanised steel frames with FRP grating. The prefabricated skids were transported to Canberra for crane installation into the rooftop plant room, significantly reducing on-site construction time. Works also included supply and installation of 11 new VAV units with HHW coils, a complete Automated Logic BMS system by Synchronous Building Automation, new mechanical switchboards, pipework insulation and sheathing, ductwork modifications, mechanical commissioning, and third-party air and water balancing.
