Cooling tower replacement for one of Australia's largest food manufacturers

Project story

QEG was engaged directly by Kellanova (formerly Kellogg's) to replace the end-of-life Shinwa SDC-P600ASS cooling tower (known as Cooling Tower 9) on the roof of Building 23 at their Banksmeadow food manufacturing facility. The existing tower, installed in the 1980s, serviced two water chillers operating in duty/standby mode. QEG designed the replacement solution, supplied and installed a new Marley NC Class Diamond Series NC8403NAN field-assembled 2-cell crossflow cooling tower with SS304 framework, modified the existing steel support structure, and connected new SS304 pipework to the existing chilled water system. The project required a 100-tonne crane lift coordinated with Ausgrid tiger-tail protection on adjacent overhead power lines, airport authority permits due to proximity to Sydney Airport, and road occupancy licences. All works were timed around Kellanova's annual plant shutdown in July 2025.
